Cle Elum On the Net highlights a particular love in the area, the horses. Maybe because there are such beautiful trails or quality pasture land or maybe the undeniable easy-country atmosphere but there is a definite obsession with the equines. The trails are endless, the community welcoming and the horses are often happy and slightly overweight due to the scrumptous grazing in Cle Elum!

Cle Elum offers equine enjoyment from just appreciative on-lookers of the magnificent animals to hard core competitive opportunities in many of the recognized equine disciplines. Starting as young as 6 years old in Pony Club (an international organization for english riding and equine education the local club is the Kittitas Valley Pony Club) and 9 in 4H (a national youth organization promoting sortsmanship and skill building the horse project is called Perfomance Horse) youth are also very active in the horsemen community. Recently a youth Drill Team has been established at the the Dragonwood Riding, Training & Breeding Facility (509)674-5961 also be sure to take note of their bi-annual EquiFest, horse sales, educational demonstrations, or just a good excuse to enjoy the horse world. Most competitions occur at the Ellensburg Fair and Rodeo grounds link into their site to view a schedule of events. Their is also an impressive cutting facility in the Thorp area and an English style riding complex on Peoh Point, Elk Haven Equestrian Center (509)674-2317.
